“DISA Gran Canaria Marathon will have a new route as well as a new place for the runners village on 25 January 2015”, announced Lucas Bravo de Laguna (Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria).
First of all, Mr. Bravo de Laguna thanked in the launch ceremony the presence of Pablo Barbero, Counselor for Economic Development, Tourism and the Ciudad de Mar of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Municipality, and Loli Saavedra, Head of Brand Marketing Department of DISA (main sponsor of the race).
The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium area will host the starting and finishing points of the races. Also the Expo will be located in this area.
As Bravo de Laguna explained, “this change is needed because the race is growing every year and Venegas St. has become small.
Moreover, the area of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium is one of the most emblematic of the city and the island. The new area will offer more conveniences to the organization, the runners and the general public. Also it is the perfect place to promote the city.” Mr. Bravo de Laguna added “We're working hard to improve the route and also the race in general.
“After receiving many requests from participants the last years, the new route will not include the port side”. “Cabildo, City Council and DISA (as the main sponsor), will continue working together to promote the race and to make sure that next January everything goes perfectly. In the same way, we will continue strengthening an event that grows year after year, becoming one of the biggest sporting events of the archipelago and hoping that the next edition will count on, at least, 8.000 runners” Mr. Bravo de Laguna.
Loli Saavedra thanked the "Cabildo which has enabled DISA be the main sponsor of this event. For us it is an honor that this race carries our name. As a Canarian company, committed and leader we believe that this race fits perfectly with our values."
Pablo Barbero explained that the "City Council will provide one more year all the necessary services for the race to be a success as it has been and will be in the future. The economic impact that this and other sports are having in many capitals cannot go unnoticed by our Municipality, so we will support seamlessly the Cabildo with promotions that will be done in cities like Stockholm, Venice, Oslo, Amsterdam, Berlin and Munich."
