You can discover in our official website what volunteering in the DISA Gran Canaria Marathon means, main tasks and how to join as volunteer in this event where thousands of people will take part.
The DISA Gran Canaria Marathon grows every year in number of participants, activities and facilities, increasing the number of workers in this event, all coordinated by the working team of the Instituto Insular de Deportes.
Volunteers have been and will still be a very important part of the DISA Gran Canaria Marathon, as they are for all the big events. Their work is fundamental for the development of all the parallel acts of the events and especially on the day of the three main races: Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10Km.
The coordination of the tasks and functions of these volunteers is provided by the Ministry of Sports of Cabildo de Gran Canaria led by Mr. Lucas Bravo de Laguna, who considers "fundamental part of the event the help of volunteers since without them there would be much more difficult to carry on this great event. For this reason, this year we want to define properly their tasks and carry out a specialized training in order to give greater prominence to the over 600 volunteers who will participate in the 2015’s edition.
“On behalf of the Cabildo, we want all the volunteers to feel supported and to be aware of the importance of their role during the 5 days that will last the activities of the DISA Gran Canaria Marathon”, said the Minister of Sports.
New “Manual of the volunteer”
On the website there are several sections devoted to volunteering such as “What is volunteering?”, “Tasks and functions of the volunteer” and the new “Manual of Volunteer 2015”, where is explained the importance of their role in the race, which means been a volunteer in the DISA Gran Canaria Marathon as well as a guide containing the main tasks and functions of this group in order to develop this great sporting event.
Those who will be encouraged to participate in the next edition of the DISA Gran Canaria Marathon as volunteers may also register on the web and become 'protagonists' of one of the greatest sporting events in the Canary Islands.
